Capital Projects

The Masterplan is a roadmap for a coordinated implementation of projects for Muir College. The purpose of these developments is to assist Muir College to enjoy another 200 years of success.
The Muir Foundation has been granted the mandate by the School Governing Body to streamline its efforts to raise funds to develop facilities and programs in support of the development, and to ensure Muir College has a leading position within the broader schooling community in the Eastern Cape province and beyond.
The agreement signed reinforces the mandate of the school to educate, the Old Muirite Union to network old boys with each other and the Muir Foundation to implement capital projects as fundraiser.

The Infrastructure Masterplan provides for the construction of 2 hockey astroturf fields above an indoor sports centre. Conceptual drawings have been prepared.
The astroturfs will be based at Muir College with the intention of being used by schools and clubs in the Kariega, Despatch and Gqeberha areas.
Sport lies at the heart of the Muir College experience. Muir boys enjoy outstanding facilities to develop their talents, compete with pride and enjoy being active. Sadly hockey remains the exception. Muir College, neighbouring schools and the wider Kariega community all lack access to a quality hockey facility and the Muir Foundation has the intention to change this.
This is more than an investment in hockey. It is an investment in our community, creating opportunities and inspiring future generations through a facility everyone can be proud of.

Details to follow as the project develops.

The Muir College Water Project is an initiative of the Muir Foundation to support the water needs of Muir College. The Project aims to provide a more stabilised provision of water to the school - currently affected by regular water outages as well as severe droughts from time to time.
The Muir Foundation appreciates the ZAR 2.4m contribution made by the Grundfos Foundation towards Phase 1 of the Project. 3 boreholes are now providing around 100 000 litres of water per day and a tank to store 650000 litres of water has been constructed.
Phase 2 will focus on irrigation and collecting water from down pipes.
This is in addition to the Old Muirite contribution of 16 x 5000L water tanks donated to the school in 2022.
The Muir Foundation is also engaging with the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality to fix pipes and pumps to supply irrigation water from the Calvin Jones treatment plant in the town.
-
The Solar Project Phase 1 - was the first project of the Muir Foundation. ZAR2.4m was raised in 2021 and 2022 and this allowed for a solar system to be installed at Muir College. The Foundation is grateful to the many Old Muirites who contributed to make this project a reality.
Phase 2 is now envisaged and the plan is to install further panels, an inverter and batteries.
-
The Wedge Embankment development aims to modernise the Muir College Vanes Estate campus with plans to include a museum, music centre and other world-class facilities
-
The Masterplan includes a vision to encircle the Muir College campus with a boundary wall encompassing the entire campus.
